How would we handle the effects of a natural disaster or terrorist attack here in Phoenix? Name the situation and what might be the effects of this disaster. This can be natural or manmade.

  1. Dillon C. Says:

A terrorist attack here in Phoenix, is if the president came here, so Osama bin laden Herd where he was. He bought a plane, and had 5 other planes follow him. He had the planes come in at sky harbor airport right at the president. They all died and everyone went mad. Laws in Arizona were so strict. There was a security guard on every corner, and people weren’t happy. No one was allowed to leave or come into Arizona, until 20 years later. That would be really bad if that happened. People would be really mad, riots would break out, and people would get hurt. That wouldn’t be very good. Don’t you think so?

  2. Nick D 8B Says:

The situation in Phoenix would be a terrorist attack on downtown Phoenix. We would handle this by first evacuating everyone form downtown Phoenix so they could get to a safe zone. Then we would help rebuild the downtown area by contributing to help. Also we would tighten security in every building so bombs could be detcted. That is how Phoenix would handle a terorist attack.

  3. Jordan S. Says:

Natural disasters never happen here, so terrorist attacks would be more likely. It would be hard dealing with a terrorist attack in Phoenix, because nobody would be prepared. Since I was pretty close to the effects on 9/11, I know what it’s like in disasters like this. When the terrorists would attack, the whole state would be in chaos. Parents would bring their children home from school early, in an effort to keep them safe. People would be jumping out of windows in the buildings being hit. The day would seem like the end of the world. Afterwards, the whole city would be greiving thousands of lost loved ones. This city would never forget a terrorist attack, just like New York never forgot 9/11.

  4. Lauren G. Says:

    2. If there was a disaster in Phoenix, I’m not sure what I would do. If it was something like a fire or an earthquake, people might be left homeless with no where else to go. The people who lost their homes could go to a shelter, a hotel, or even a friend or relative’s house to stay for a while. If it was a fire, the firefighters would be working around the clock to put it out or at least keep it from spreading. Hopefully, a big disaster will never occur in Phoenix.

  5. ethan b. 8b Says:

If a disaster happened in Phoenix Arizona I hope we would be ready but I don’t know. Like if a theorist attack happened I don’t think really much would happen because there isn’t any national building or something like that. When 9/11 happened they crashed into the twin towers which was an icon for New York, and the pentagon. But if a natural disaster happened it would be more effective. Like if a big earthquake hit downtown Phoenix. That is what I think would happen if those disasters hit Phoenix.

  6. meghan r Says:

If people here in Phoenix were affecter by a terrorist attack most people would want to take immediate action. Some people would call for another war even, while others would want to hide or ignore it. The majority of the people would want to prepare for another attack. Our state and government leaders would most likely attack back for revenge. Any way you look at it our reaction to a disaster like a terrorist attack would not be a good one.

  7. Sarah F Says:

The effects of a natural disaster in Phoenix, like a flood from a monsoon, could be handled quite differently than the way it was handled by Green. People would probably try to help one another, to be neighborly, the people would be united by this common goal of reconstructing our city. The government would probably step in and give aid to us, just as they did during the time of the Katrina disaster. However, in Green Angel, everyone seems to help themselves, no one goes to find Green as she hides in her house, the government does not send troops of volunteers armed with food to the aid of the poor survivors. Instead, everyone fends for themselves. In our time, this probably would not happen, there are just too many people out there who are willing to help, who would rebuild the houses after the flood, who would help people to get back on their feet. In Phoenix, it would probably take a very long time for everything to get back to normal, but it would be possible.

  8. scout a. Says:

In Phoenix, there are not that many natural disasters, so I think that a terrorist attack would be more reasonable to predict the outcome of. If terrorists attacked Phoenix, like if they bombed it or can and shot many people, it would be very hard to overcome. Phoenix is such a developing area and it would cost very much money to reconstruct all of the damage. We could have fundraisers and volunteers help clean up the mess or even rebuild some building from all over the United States. Just like the hurricane in the South, I believe that many people would come and help Phoenix or send in money to help.

  9. Madison H. Says:

If we had a natural disaster like a fire there would be a lot of effects from the fire. One effect would be that a numerous number of homes would be burnt down and the families wouldn’t have anywhere to live. Another effect would be that maybe some people died from the fire. Another effect would be that some of the natural beauty of the desert was burnt and can’t be saved. Some ways we could handle this situation would be to build all of the families who lost their homes new ones. We could also have a special memorial for the people who died in the fire. For the natural beauty of the desert that was lost we could plant new trees, cacti, bushes, etc. That is how we would deal with a natural disaster like a fire.

  10. Allie C. Says:

If we had a terrorist attack here in Phoenix I don’t think we would be able to handle it. I think there would be a lot of chaos going on. I don’t think we could handle it, and I dont think we would be prepared for it. There would probably be lots of dying, terror, and maybe even a fire because of a bomb. It would be like September 11th. Chaos, dying, and wondering what would happen next. That is what I would think would happen if we had a terrorist attack, here in Phoenix.

  11. Jacqueline M 8b Says:

There would be many effects of a fire in Phoenix. Fires are very dangerous and destroy everything in their path. Because we live in the desert, the fire would spread quickly. If not put out soon, the fire would destroy homes, schools, buildings, and stores. People would be forced to evacuate their homes and go somewhere else. The fire would last for about two weeks, and everything would be destroyed. Ashes would be everywhere, and a burnt stench would fill the air. As a community and city, I think that everyone would help clean up. People would donate money and time into getting our old city back. Some buildings would need to be patched up, while others would need to be rebuilt completely. Hopefully no lives would be taken, and everyone would be evacuated and notified in time. There are many effects of disasters, especially fires.

  12. Tommy E Says:

If we had a terrorist attack or a natural disaster I think the city of Phoenix would protect the citizens. They would help the citizens in any way they could. They would help the families of the lost ones, and they would protect the people who have lost everything. We have not had a lot of serious disasters in Phoenix, but if we did I think Phoenix would work at the best of their abilities to help. If we had a flood, Phoenix would help the people who have lost their homes. Their might be an increase in poverty, starvation and even death. People would be upset and stressed. Our city would not be alive if we get a disaster.

  13. Darian D Says:

When a category five hurricane like Katrina hits Louisiana and Florida, or when terrorists crash into the Twin Towers, everyone is emotionally scarred and is in shock. When disasters strike, no matter where we are in the world, we stop to think what has happened, what we can do to help, and we come together. If a huge earthquake strikes Phoenix, I would know idea what to do. I would feel upset, scared, confused, worried, and somewhat traumatized. If this earthquake happened, I would probably handle it in a very sorrowful way. I would look at it this way because I wouldn’t know if my friends and family would have survived, everything around me like buildings and homes would be destroyed, and I would feel really upset and sad for all of those who got hurt or died. It would be very hard to go back to our daily lives if something like an earthquake were to happen. Homes, schools, stores, etc. would be destroyed, there wouldn’t be jobs, and items from our lives and our childhood would be gone which would be hard to believe. I am not sure how victims of disasters deal with the disasters that they encounter but God bless them because they have to go through so much that it is unbearable.

  14. Rachel W Says:

I think Arizona would handle a natural disaster by helping everybody out with rebuilding homes, putting people in shelters till they can fully support themselves and there families. People will also help protect other families by giving them food and shelter if they weren’t hurt by the natural disaster. That is what I think the people in Phoenix would do.

  15. Ellen S Says:

There are many fears of living in the world today. One thing I know that would scare me is if there was a terrorist attack amoungst the citizens of Phoenix. It could be a homeade bomb just carelessly dropped in the middle of the city. If i was near the attack I would grab everyone i was with, and just run opposit the attack area. This may seen common but you could also go into an industrial building or a storage area and hide in the basements or safe area. Next I would call any loved ones I wasnt with and talk to them. Then I could call police and a rescue ambulance and crew. If I was well enough to do so I would help rescue people. That is how I would handle an attack.

  16. Dylan T. Says:

I don’t think that Phoenix would handle a natural disaster or terrorist attack very well. We would freak out and wouldn’t be able to handle the situation very well. We wouldn’t know what to do. If a natural disaster occurred, a lot of buildings would fall over and houses and neighborhoods would be destroyed. It would be hard to restore Phoenix, but we could do it and it would take a long time. If a terrorist attack happened here, then we wouldn’t know what to do. That is what would happen if a natural disaster or a terrorist attack happened hear in Phoenix.

  17. Andrew M Says:

I think Phoenix would handle a natural disaster well. Mainly because Phoenix is such a large city. I think really the only thing that could destroy or cause mass havoc on our city is a bomb. In that case no we wouldn’t handle it very well. If it happened I think it would be in the downtown area. I would probably be safe because I live in the outskirts of the city however other people might die. This would be a very sad day.

  18. Ryan S Says:

If Phoenix had a terrorist attack or natural disaster people would be going crazy in the streets. An example would be if we got bombed by al queida and we all lost our lives. That would be the worst thing ever. Another example would be if Arizona had a huge ginormous earthquake that wiped away the whole state. That would be another day that would basically end our world. That is what would happen if something bad happened to Phoenix.

  19. Sydney C. 8B Says:

Well, I think Phoenix would be able to handle a natural disaster well. They would because since there are so many people living here, i think if something were to happen people would be scared at first but would try to help everyone get out of the antural disaster. If that disaster were to happen in the downtown area, only because i have been downt ehre and it is a very non populated people. This day woud be very sad, because people would die and it would be as sad as 9/11.

  20. Ali S Says:

I dont think that Pheonix would handle a terrorists attack pretty well. I think they would help the state get throught all of the terrror of what was going on.The army and navy and the president would come to Arizona and try to kill the terrosrists, or atleast catch them. It would be very similiar to September 11 if something had happened here in Phoenix or anywhere else in the United States. It would be devestating and a lot of people would die.

  21. Jake O. 8B Says:

I think that Phoenix would be good at handleing a natural disaster. If there was a earth quake the government would send people to help us. If we knew it would happen before happen we would probably go some where it wouldn’t happen. It would be bad, but Phoenix would be prepared next time something like that happened. That is why I think Phoenix would hadle a earth quake well.

  22. Danny G. 8B Says:

In Phoenix Arizona I believe there are a lot of laws preventing terrorist attacks in this state. If there happened to be an event of a terrorist attack the state would have a lot to deal with. They would first probably send fire departments and police officers to the scene. They would come to they aid of people and try to get all of the people out alive. Next they would try to clean up the disaster and investigate the attack. The attack would be that Iraq would bomb down town in revenge of all the innocent people killed in the War on Terrorism. That is my take on what would happen if a terrorist were to attack in Phoenix, Arizona.

  23. MIchael M. 8B Says:

It would be horrible to have a terroroist attack here in Phoenix. This would be a horrible incidnet because many people would die. IT would be like another 9/11. This would be very depressing for me because many peple in Phoenix would die. I hope things like this will nver happen again and that god may look over all the terrorists in this world that they can see what is right and that it is wrong what they are doing

  24. Jillian L Says:

I don’t think we would handle a disaster well in Phoenix. It has never happened before and no one really thinks of Phoenix as a national threat kind of city. The situation could be a bomb. The effects could be broken buildings, leaving thousands of people homeless and starving. Another effect is that it would kill many people. This bomb could be a devastation to everyone in the states.

  25. Juliana C Says:

If a natural disaster such as a category 5 hurricane occured here in Phoenix, I think that our city would have a lot of problems getting back on its feet and we would definitely lose a lot of people, but the nation’s leaders would mostly protect us and give us shelter from whatever natural disaster occurs. It would take a long time and a lot of effort to rebuild all that was lost, but with the help of all of our citizens it can be done. It would also maybe help our city come together and work harder to fix it.

  26. Matt G 8B Says:

Here is how I would handle a terrorist attack in Phoenix. The situation would be that terrorists manage to assault Phoenix. If I was at home when it happens I would gather together the firearms in my home and would go with my family into the mountains where it is safe. If I had to defend myself I would. We would all defend each other. I would stay with my family in the mountains until the attack was over. That is how I would handle a terrorist attack in Phoenix.

  27. Shannon e Says:

There are many fears now in the world after 9/11. If this were to happen in Phoenix I would be very devastated because I have been living here since I was 5 and have had many memories. Also because my friends or family could be in part of it. What I would do to get away is run the other direction and find a safe hiding place like in a bank safe, because for this reason they would most likely let as much people in as possible. What could have caused this was that they were made at our country for destroying theirs. That is what I would do in this situation.

  28. Alexia O Says:

If a natural disaster occurred, such as a fire, people would react very quickly. People near that area would be evacuated and fire crews would be sent in. It may take a while for the fire to be put out though. If that were the case, people who were evacuated would be without their homes for a while. This is what Phoenix would do if a natural disaster occurred.

It would also maybe help our city come together and work harder to fix it

  30. Jacob H. Says:

If there were to be a natural disaster in Phoenix there would be thousands of lives lost if we couldn’t take precautions. A disease could be causing people to loose ability to move, then be at a loss for words, then commit suicide. This could be a terrorist attack and could be potentially fatal to mankind. We would have to make a antidote for the cause of the disease and eventually localize the point of origin. This would be a devastating disease and many people would be affected.

  31. Kate K Says:

If a natural disaster or a terrorist were to occur I think we would not be very prepared. If we were prepared though I think everyone would be evacuated as quickly as possible. If it were a terrorist attack they would send the police or FBI to try to capture the terrorists. It may take a while to evacuate everyone, but I can’t think of any other way to save people from a natural disaster. If the natural disaster was like a hurricane I would tell people not to live to close to the beach areas. This is what I think would happen if there was a natural disaster or a terrorist attack in Phoenix.

  32. Jack D Says:

I believe Phoenix would not handle a terrorist attck very well. For one thing, we wouldn’t expect it. New York, Chicago, and L.A. where important buildings and people live, have evacuation plans and such that we here in Phoenix don’t have. Natural disasters would be different. For one thing, Arizona will probably not experience tornadoes or tsunamis. I am sure there are evacuation processes for these situations, however. Im sure we would be ok though.

  33. Natalie D Says:

If there was a natural disaster or a terrorist attack here in Phoenix I’m not sure anyone would know what to do. A natural disaster can be really bad! If a hurricane like hurricane Katrina came then that would be very bad, even though it’s not likely to happen here. Hypothetically, if it happened we would lose a lot of lives, homes, etc. Lots of people would become homeless and schools would be shutdown and people then wouldn’t be getting education. Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters can destroy everything! Arizona would probably take a long time trying to clean up and fix and make things back it the way they were, if you look at some of the people in New Orleans, they still aren’t all recovered from it.

  34. Anthony O. Says:

If There was a terrorist attack or natural disaster the state of Arizona would not handle good at all. There would be many deaths and the whole state would be in chaos. The same thing would pretty much happen if there was an natural disaster. Homes would be destroyed, people would die and everything would be out of order. This is what would happen if there was a terrorist attack or natural disaster in AZ.

  35. abby w Says:

If Phoenix had a natural diaster or a terriost attack occur, I personally don’t think Phoenix would be able to take it all so very well. A lot of people would worry and they wouldn’t know what to do. If there was a natural diaster, people would be worried about their house being destroyed or someone in their family get hurt or even killed. Most of the people here would probably evactuate as soon as possible. The effects to something manmade would be almost as bad, if not equally as bad. People would be in jeporady of their lives and worrying about others and their lives also. People’s homes and bussiness are at risk of being possibly taken over by someone or something. There are more things that could happen if there was a natural diaster or manmade thing that could effect Phoenix, but these are the things that I think would be the most likely to happen to Phoenix.

  36. Maddie S. Says:

Natural disasters and terrorists attacks are always traumatizing. Luckily, Phoenix doesn’t have to deal with very many natural disasters, but if we were the victims of a terrorist attack it would be horrendous. I don’t think terrorists will ever be able to takeover and crash airplanes again because there are too many safety regulations, however they could bomb us. If our city was bombed, many people would die or be injured, buildings would be demolished, and jobs would be lost. Our city would be in a state of peril. I would most likely be scared, confused, angry and sad. I would also try to help others around me. I hope something like this never happens to Phoenix.

  37. Haley G. Says:

If a natural disaster hit Phoenix we would all come together to fix the damage. There aren’t many possibilities of a natural disaster in Phoenix because we don’t live any where close to the ocean, and it is not likely to have tornados here, if so they would be very small. We would fix it like any other natural disaster in the world, we would try our best to rebuild and make new. Raising money would be a good place to start, without the money we could not get the resources needed to rebuild. A possible natural disaster would be maybe, a really big monsoon or an earthquake felt from California or another nearby state. That is how I think we would handle the effects of a natural disaster.

  38. Elias N. Says:

A terrorist attack would be terrible. One way of handling it would be to have good communication with all the people. This can be either through radio or by TV. Phoenix’s water supplies could be poisoned by terrorist. This would have terrible consequences on the 5 million people living here. People would be without water and they could die!

  39. Elias N. Says:

I agree with Scout’s comments about the how unlikely natural disasters happen in Phoenix. We don’t get enough rain for floods, we don’t have earth quakes or tornados. But it is important to be prepared with plenty of canned food, water, blankets and flash lights. People can always talk to people that have been victims of a disaster to get some ideas as to what they can do to be better prepared.

  40. Kait E. Says:

We have all seen parents protecting their children in many situations. This may be physically or in helping the child make the right decisions. In one situation, my father was protecting me. My father and I were at an air park with my uncle, this is because my uncle likes to build planes and then fly them, so we were standing by watching him when a man came running out from the shelter. This man was screaming to turn off line 22 (your remotes for your plane) because something had malfunctioned. However, my uncle couldn’t do this because his plane was up in the air which would cause his plane to crash. Without knowing what was happening, my dad grabs me and puts me on the other side of him, shielding me. One of the planes had broken a fuse and was doing a nose dive onto the runway. Everyone was shouting and running for cover. I was thankful that my dad was right there to protect me because I had no idea what was going on.

  41. Kait E. Says:

Not many natural disasters have happened or will probably ever happen in Phoenix. It is more likely that we will have a terrorist attack instead. In which case, if we knew about it before we would be able to evacuate the city to save as many lives as possible and afford some protection on our city. If we had no idea this was to happen I believe that we would all work together to clean up our city and make it our home again. With buildings destroyed and many lives lost, it would be hard but we would be able to do it. Our city and nation would of course fight back and prevent that from happening ever again. We would be able to show others that we are able to come together and work as one.

  42. nate h Says:

If there was a terrorist attack in Phoenix, it would be chaos. Our police and fire departments would try their best to help save civilians if it was an attack like 9/11. We would probably react the same way that our country reacted on 9/11. We would try to restore what we lost in the attack the best we can, and the government would discover what group of terrorists attacked us. They would probably strike back. Our government would probably declare another war on terrorism. That is how I think we would react if there was a terrorist attack on Phoenix.

  43. Julie L Says:

I don’t think that Phoenix would be able to handle a natural disaster very well. For one thing nothing terribly bad has occurred naturally for us to be prepared. We haven’t had any hurricanes on tornadoes, and if something like that occurred here, we wouldn’t be prepared for it. The worst thing that has happened to us is a hail storm once in a while. That is how I think Phoenix would be able to handle a natural disaster.

  44. meghan r Says:

I disagree with Ethan B. when he says, “If a natural disaster happened it would be more effective [than a terrorist attack].” Just because we don’t have ‘twin towers’ in Phoenix doesn’t mean that terrorists won’t attack us. During terrorist attacks people all over the country are frightened, imagine if you where inside a city they had bombed. Now, compare that feeling of realizing that an earthquake is going to happen in Phoenix. Which is a more frightening prospect for you? For me it would be a terrorist attack. When cities are bombed those cities are destroyed, but it is not always so with an earthquake.

  45. Jackie F. Says:

If there was a natural disaster or terrorist attack in Phoenix, I believe that the city would protect its citizens. There are not many natural disasters in Phoenix, but a common disaster is a fire. Many wildfires break out and burn houses down. The fire could spread across the whole city. The city would probably handle this situation by evacuating everyone to a safe place. The fire fighters would be working nonstop until the fire would be out. After the fire would be out, the people would help rebuild the city, or whatever was burnt down. I believe Phoenix would do anything to help its city and protect the citizens.

  46. Ben S. Says:

If there was a large scale terrorist attack in Phoenix, this is what i would do. First i would barracade myself into my house with sandbags, cinderblock walls, and other objects to deter blasts and gunfire. Second, i would stock up on food and other necesitties so i8 could hold out in my own house for a long time. Third, i would keep firearms and ammountion ready to defend myself. That is what i would do in response to a large scale terrorist attack in Phoenix.

  47. Mackenzie E. Says:

I would not know how to react in a situation like this. If a natural disaster or terrorist attack happened to Phoenix I would probably be very scared. I would be scared because some of my loved ones could died or I could be living on the streets because of my house being bombed or destroyed some other way. This would be a terrifying event and it would be very hard to handle no matter what happened.

  48. Mackenzie E. Says:

I am responding to Sarah F. response. I agree with her about everyone helping one another and how the characters in Green Angel keep to themselves, but it is very unlikely for a flood to happen in Arizona. Although, if this could happen I agree with her.

  49. Christian F. Says:

If a terrorist attack happened at Phoenix, we would not handle it very well. One terrorist attack that can happen here is if a terrorist group drops a chemical bomb. It would be a disaster. Phoenix would not know what just hit them. They would not find out what type of chemical it is for a while and many people would be dying in that time. It would take a while to block off the area where the bomb hit and stop it from spreading. I think a lot of people would die from this disaster.

  50. Christopher G. Says:

We would probally take it very hard here ing Arizona. But since there are not many major landmarks here I don’t think it would be anything major, unless in was a kind of disease. We would be able to restore everything but it would not be easy to do. People would have to work together to have everything put back the way it used to be, fire fighters, policemen ,and many other governmental officials would be needed to aid Phoenix. Most people would take it pretty hard but I would see it as a way to make Phoenix better.

  51. heidi h Says:

It would be difficult to handle a disaster here in Phoenix. It is very hot so we would have to make sure that everyone has shelter to stay cool. Our homes are very important to our survival out in the desert. it would be horrible if something happened to them. We would also have to take care of all the hurt people, make sure everyone has food and water, and try to recover as best as possible. it would be difficult but I think that we could do it.

  52. MIchael M 8B Says:

Dylan, i agree and disagree with you. I disagree wit you because i believe that Phoenix would handle a terroroist attack very well. I believe this because there has already been one terrorist attack in new york and i belive that we learn form our mistakes and would be well prepared for it to happen a second time. I agree with you because of there was a natural disaster we would not handle it well because firstly: we have very few natural disasters in arizona and we would not be prepared for it and two: we have had many hurricanes all over the country and they have never and probably never will be handled well.

  53. Allison C Says:

If a natural disaster occured here in Phoenix, I don’t think many people would be prepared. First of all, people would spread the news as fast as they could. Then everybody would probably start panicking. Everyone would be evacuated from the area and relocated to a safe zone. Then everyone would help to rebuild whatever had been destoyed.

  54. Dominic B. Says:

Well, if there was a terrorist attack here in Phoenix, Arizona than we would have to take care of it in some way. For instance, a huge gang come into our city and bomb most of our buildings, than we would have to try to evacuate all of the citizens in the area and maybe in this part of Arizona, to be safe. Than after the whole incident has been done than we would have to rebuild the area and get everyone back into their houses and get settled back in again. If this were true, than this would be a historical day in history. A day when modern day people will never forget, a day everyone would pray for.

  55. Bentley B. Says:

If there was the natural disaster or terrorist attack I believe that Phoenix would not handle it very well. Since Phoenix is a large city but a low-lying area, Dowtown Phoenix would probaly be completely flooded if there was a flood. If there was a terrorist attack I think Phoenix would suffer like any other city and Phoenix would have to deal with the after effects like any other city, but I think Phoenix would have worst long term effects. Example of a manmade natural disaster was 9/11 in New York City. That terroist attack was the first terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Not only was New York moved by this but a whole nation was.

  56. Brennan T Says:

If a natural disaster ocured here in Phoenix it would be devastating. We would react by preparing as best as we could. People would buy lots of food and if it was a hurricane people would do the same except they would buy things to cover the window. One example of a manmade natural disaster would be the nuclear reactor in Chinople. The reactor became unstable and exploded. Chinople has been an unihabbited place for about 20 years now.

  57. Ryan S Says:

I agree with Nate H. because if a terrorist attack happened in Phoenix our state would have chaos. We would all try to fix our country and yet we would still have chaos. That is why I agree with Nate H.

  58. Nick D 8B Says:

I disagree with Ryan. I disagree because I don’t think that because no one would be running crazy through the streets. Also I don’t think it would be possible for Al Caida to attack us because they would probably be detected before it happens. That is why I disagree with Ryan.

  59. scout a. Says:

I am responding to Bentley B comment for question 2. I agree with him when he says that a natural disaster would be a flood because anything else besides a drought, would be unreasonable for the state of Arizona. I disagree thought when you said that the long term effects would be worse than any other city though. I agree with you though when you said that the short termm pojects would be bad.

  60. Juliana C Says:

I am responding to Sarah F. What she said is exactly right. In the book Green Angel, everyone just fends for themselve’s and fights for their own survival. If something like that happened nowadays, the government would be at everyone’s aid trying to fix the community. The people would come together. But in the book, no one did that, no one tried to help eachother.

  61. Anthonyo Says:

I agree with you Abby. Phoenix would not be able a terrorist attack. People and peoples homes are in danger and many people would be lost. You are right that even a natural disaster would do the same thing. It could even do worse. That is why i agree with Abby.

  62. Ethan H Says:

If A natural disaster occured here in Phoenix, there would be many changes. If a tornado ever happened in Phoenix (yes it can happen) that it would cause much loss and we would try to rebuild. We would devolp new and innovative ideas so that we would be able to detect tornados and other natural disasters coming. This would also help the rest of the world because we could implement these systems in tornado and hurracane prone areas to lower the damage and death.

  63. Keegan M. 8A Says:

If we had a terrorist attack here in Phoenix we might handle it by contacting the police. Then we would probably have to move everyone near the attack to a safer zone. After we move everyone we would probably send troops to go help fight off the terrorist. Some effects that would occur would be buildings or houses getting ruined or even people dying or getting injured.

  64. Lauren G. Says:

I agree with Jordan S. Phoenix wouldn’t be ready for a terrorist attack. Since there aren’t many major monuments or national parks here, besides the Grand Canyon, there is not much for terrorists to attack. However, they could still bomb the city hall or anyone’s home. I agree when Jordan says the whole city would be grieving. Almost everyone would have lost a loved one with Phoenix was bombed.

  65. Darian D Says:

Maddie H., I agree with your statement. Many people would be homeless and some would die. But the one effect that I didn’t even think about that you mentioned was that the landscape would be destroyed. The precious desert that we do take for granted would be destroyed and we wouldn’t look at it the same. We could always plant new plants and trees and such, but it wouldn’t look as natural and would take quite some time since our deserts are so vast. If the fire were to happen, we could rebuild homes and take care of others by letting them use your shower or even given them a blanket and pillow. The one thing that just came into my mind is that this has already happened. It hasn’t happened here in Phoenix, but up north, in the summer, there are huge and dangerous wild fires which burn down homes and memories. And personally, I think we should do more to help them by donating basic items, giving money, giving people a place to stay, or just going up there and helping out.

  66. Grace K Says:

There are many examples of how Phoenix would handle if we had a natural disaster or a terrorist attack. All different disasters could happen, for example a flood. If a flood were to happen, many things could be destroyed and damaged. We would probably have to evacuate and many families would be crushed by this. Disasters also are very likely and have been proven to consider death. I think if the situation was really big we could have a day to remember families who died, and lost things just like 9/11, or how people help Hurricane Katrina with fundraisers. Though these events were hard times in history, we got through it and we are stronger from it. If we look to God, he can help us get through any disaster weather it’s accidental, or intended.

  67. Grace K Says:

Bentley B, i disagree with you. I think that we could get through a disater fine. You said that one of the reasons you think this is because Phoenix is a large city. Well, New York City is even larger and they got through 9/11 very well, which is one of our countrys biggest disasters. New York has even tried to be stronger from this and they are re-building the World Trait Center. I think if an event that was serious were to happen that we could handle it very maturley.

  68. Julian D. Says:

I think that if a terrorist attack occurred in Phoenix, people would react quickly. After 9/11, the government has taken a lot more steps to ensure safety. The city would probably the evacuated quickly and efficiently. The only problem is that there might be too much traffic and people might get stuck and have to walk on foot. I think that the authorities could handle evacuating the city. Hopefully this day will never come where we will be attacked, but I think we would handle the situation well enough.

  69. Michael S Says:

If a terrorist attack had occurred the survivors would probably move away for a little bit. The army would also probably cover more of Arizona incase of another attack. The government would probably launch an attack on where the terrorists came from. After a while people would start moving back and getting back to their regular lives. That is what would happen if terrorists attacked Phoenix.

  70. Kait E. Says:

I agree with Jackie Frere. Our city does not have many natural disasters, but one of the biggest things that we do have is fires. This is one of the most common natural disasters here because it is so dry and hot. The citizens would of course be the first priority to get out and save. Since fire usually spreads quickly, this would have to be done super fast. Of course the firefighters would get recognition for being so brave. Rebuilding our city would be another thing. If we all would work together in case this happens maybe less or no lives would be lost and we would be back on our feet faster.

  71. Tommy E Says:

Natalie D, I disagree with you because you said the city of Phoenix wouldn’t handle the situation very well. First of all, there aren’t very many natural disasters that can start in a city like ours. However, if a natural disaster or terrorist attack did happen, Phoenix would be very prepared. Phoenix is a very big city, with very experienced people running it. They would do an action that would keep everybody safe. They have handled things very well in the past. I feel safe because if something did happen, I know I’m protected.

  72. Whitney H (8a) Says:

Many people would react differently than one another if there was a terrorist attack or a natural disaster in Phoenix. We could have terrorist attack all of our major buildings, or our leaders buildings. Some bystanders wouldn’t do anything but watch. Others might pancic, and some people might call 911. These are some of the reactions I think people would have.

  73. Whitney H (8a) Says:

I agree with Christopher. There would probably not be a terrorist attack here in Arizona because there are no major land marks here. Terrorists probably wouldn’t even think of coming here and wasting time that had no exact significance. This is why I agree with Christopher.

  74. Matt G Says:

Responding to Bentley B: Here is why I agree with Bentley. I agree with him when he says that Phoenix would flood because it is low-lying. I also agree when Bentley says that Phoenix would handle a terrorist attack like any other city and would have to deal with the after effects. I don’t know about Phoenix having worse long term effects, but I do agree with his example of 9/11. That is why I agree with Bentley.

  75. NICK M Says:

If there was a natural disaster or terrorist attack, I believe that Phoenix would handle it much better than Green’s town did. If it was a natural disaster I would imagine it would be a flood. The flood would sweep through downtown Phoenix because this is a very flat area. They effects would be no electricity. The next effect would probably be dirty, murky water because of all the run-off. The final effect would be sewage back up and possibly it flowing into the streets. Still, if this happened I think Phoenix would handle it much better than Green or any of her neighbors did.

  76. Megan S. Says:

    2. The situation in Phoenix would be a terrorist attack on downtown Phoenix. I would handle this by first evacuating everyone form downtown Phoenix so they could get to a safe zone like a bunker or a celler. Then we would help rebuild the downtown area by contributing to help from near by cities and sates. Also I would tighten security in every building so bombs could be detcted and have a though check of the building everyday. That is how I would handle a terorist attack in Phoenix.

  77. Megan S. Says:

I would agree with Allison on what she would do in case of a natural disaster in phoenix. I would want the news to spread fast and let everyone to know. I would give instruction on what to do in case of an emergency. I would put the people in a bunker or a cellar. This is what I would do in case of an emergency.

  78. Sierra D. Says:

I think that Phoenix, Arizona would handle a disaster well. If we had a terrorist attack we would probably have back up and get help from all of Arizona. There isn’t any big development in Arizona that would cause havoc over. We are a state that is here for enjoyment. If it was a big fire we might have a little problem there because we are such a dry state, being in the desert and all. Otherwise I think we are good.

  79. nate h Says:

I agree and disagree with Bentley. I think Phoenix wouldn’t handle a disaster very well, natural or terrorist. I think that a natural disaster like a flood would be very unlikely though. If it was a terrorist attack then I agree that our city wouldn’t handle it well.

  80. Natalie D Says:

I agree with Allie C. because I also don’t think Phoenix would be able to handle it. I think that there would be great numbers of dying terror, etc. September 11th was a huge tragedy and there was lots of chaos going on. People now are still sad about that day. Although we don’t have “twin towers” in Phoenix, it still would affect a lot of people.

  81. Madison H. Says:

I agree with everything Jackie F. has said. If we had a fire the government would have everyone evacuate to a safe place. I definitely agree that the fire fighters would be working nonstop until the fire would be out. Also I agree that after the fire was put out everyone would help build the houses and buildings that got burnt down. This is why I agree with Jackie F.

  82. Nat B. Says:

If a terrorist attack or a natural disaster occurred in Arizona, or any other place, it would definitely be devastating. If terrorists attacked Phoenix the United States would probably pull together just like they did during 9/11. No one was prepared, and everyone was devastated but the country came together and helped everyone cope with the disaster. If a natural disaster happened, such as a fire, or a monsoon flood I think that the government and fire departments would attempt to check on everyone to make sure that no one would be left alone, like Green. Friends and neighbors would help one another to get through a disaster like the one in the book, and kids, like the looters, would get help, and not just left to fend for themselves. No one is ever ready when disaster strikes and we would just have to do the best that we could to rebuild our city.

  83. Nat B. Says:

Dylan, and a few other people commented on how Phoenix wouldn’t be prepared if something happened. No where is fully prepared when disaster strikes, but I think that our city would handle it pretty well. I don’t think that we would all freak out, sure we would be in shock but we would soon start helping one another and start fixing the damage that is repairable. I also think that no matter what type of disaster occurred we would be able to rebuild this wonderful city. Hopefully a disaster won’t strike Phoenix any time soon but if anything does I hope that we are ready.

  84. Julie L Says:

I agree with Jordan S. Phoenix would not be able to handle a terrorist attack. We would have chaos everywhere with people panicking. Our city would not handle it well, and we would be worse off in the end. The terrorist would be able to hit us better because we weren’t prepared.

  85. Kevin V Says:

I think Phoenix could handle a natural disaster or terrorist attack well because of how big it is. People would be terrified and there would be chaos if a terrorist attack happened. I don’t think a natural disaster could occur in Phoenix, but a terrorist attack could. It would remind the whole country of what happened on that horrible day, 9/11 was terrifying and the entire country was moved. A terrorist attack would be devastating but I think Phoenix could rebound from it and still be a big city.

  86. Bentley B. Says:

I agree with Anthony O. I agree with his statment that if Phoenix were to be attacked by terroist it would not fair well. I also agree that there would be mass chaos and many deaths. Lastly I agree that the same thing would happen if there was a natural. There would destrution, death, and mass chaos. That is why I agree with Anthony O.

  87. Jacqueline M 8b Says:

Responding to Bentley B.: I disagree with your thoughts. If there was a natural disaster in Phoenix, I think we would handle it well. There are numerous people all over that would be willing to help and bring supplies. Also, the government would most likely help out by sending reinforcements and food. The United Sates has dealt with many disasters, so I think that we’d be prepared for one in Phoenix. In my opinion, Phoenix would handle this situation well.

  88. Jackie F. Says:

I definitely agree with Natalie D. on how Phoenix would handle a natural disaster. As Natalie said, if a hurricane hit Phoenix, I don’t think anyone would know what to do. Any kind of disaster would ruin our city and many people would loose all they have. This would be a horrible thing. I definitely agree that Arizona would take a while to clean up the city and restore things back to normal, just as the people of New Orleans are still doing after Hurricane Katrina. It is a shame that it is taking so long to restore everything that was lost, and Phoenix would probably take about the same time to rebuild everything. I believe that Arizona would try to protect its citizens and prevent any damage from happening.

  89. Justice R. Says:

I don’t think Phoenix would be ready for a terrorist attack. Bombs would be dropping to the ground causing many fires. Phoenix would be able to help the citizens quickly. We would help people by making sure they have shelter and food. Then we would clean up the city and build new neighborhoods for the people that lost their homes. It would be very hard to move on but we will never forget that day.

  90. Justice R. Says:

I agree with Kate K. If a terrorist attack happened we would evacuate everyone. The government would probably send police or the FBI to capture the terrorists. Phoenix would not be ready also and we would not see it coming. This is why I agree with Kate.

  91. Allie C. Says:

I’m responding to Madison H. I agree with her that a natural disaster like a fire would be devestating. We would lose lots of homes and lots of the beauty in the desert. To restore it would take a lot of work. I think it would be kind of like Hurricane Katrina with rebuilding of homes. That’s why I agree with Madison H.

  92. Dylan T Says:

I agree with Andrew M. If a terrorist attack happened, and since Phoenix is a big city, then we might be able to handle it properly. I wouldn’t get hurt either, since i also live on the outskirts. A lot of buildings and houses would crumble to the ground. It would be a sad day for many.

  93. Jack P Says:

In phoenix, there would be a meteor and it would hit downtown Phoenix. We would protect everyone by evacuating everyone out in the nick of time. Mostly everyone would be saved, and all of Phoenix would be destroyed.

  94. Jack D Says:

Bentley B, I agree with you. If a flood happened here in Phoenix, it would be difficult to get all the water out. Terrorism will have the same effect on most cities in the U.S. It is up to the citizens involved in the attack what ends up happening. That is why I agree with Bentley on this topic.

  95. Sarah F Says:

I agree with Scout A’s statement that if there were a natural disaster in Phoenix, everyone would help. She mentioned that there would be fundraisers, food drives, and donations to help. I believe that this is true of our time, though it did not seem to be true in Green’s time. In the book, people did not seem to be helping one another, only making profits and trying to cheat people (including Green Angel. Scout did mention that such a disaster would be hard to overcome, expecially in such a developing city. And here is where the book coincides with my opinion, because in the story it also seemed to take a very long time for the cinders to stop burning and for the ashes to blow away. However, a disaster now might have some of the same effects as the one in the story.

  96. Haley G. Says:

I agree with Darian D. When a disaster does strikes we stop to think what had happened then we try to fix it. There would be a lot of emotions going through everyone’s minds if there was an earthquake. It would also largely affect of daily lives is something we would need, know or used got destroyed. All we could do is pray and hope everything could be alright and live. That is why I agree with Darian D.

  97. heidi h Says:

I agree with Nick D. His plan to save down town Phoenix is very good. Evacuating everyone would help save a lot of lives. Also trying to figure out where the bombs would help. We would increase security in these places and make them safer. Next we could strengthen the buildings, and when the disaster is over we all need to help re build. This would help us all get through a disaster in phoenix.

  98. Jillian L Says:

I disagree with Sydney C. Phoenix has all the materials to handle natural disasters, but one has never happened. State officials wouldn’t have experiance in running things like that. THey wouldn’t be ready at all.

  99. Danny G. 8B Says:

I agree with Heidi’s comment. In Arizona our homes are one of the most critical things to us. They provide air conditioning, food, and shelter for use. Without them, in the desert we would probably get sick and die from dehydration. Also, it would be hard for the state to find shelter for many people at once. All of the homeless shelters would be full and there would be no place for them to go. So the state would have to find a place to put all the people that are in need.

  100. Jacob H. Says:

I agree with Sarah F. People would help each other and try to recover. Whereas Green is not helping anybody and keeps to herself. She is feeling bad for herself. She is being selfish. She doesn’t care about anyone else.

  101. Sydney C Says:

Andrew i agree fully with you. Yes phoenix is big and very populated, so there are many people that would be ready. But the only bad thing is, if a natual disaster was going to happen, and it was 9/11 people would be terrified and wouldn’t know what to do.

  102. Brennan T Says:

I completely agree with you Dominic. We would have to take care of it in some way if there was a terrorist attack in the us we couldnt just let it slide by like nothing happened. We would have to evacuate the people and then investigate.

  103. Tyler S. Says:

Many bad things could happen here in Phoenix. A major natural disaster would be an earth quake. If there were an earth quake the dam at Bartlett Lake might break. This would cause an enormous amount of water to come rushing down into the cave creek area and then proceed to downtown. If this were to happen the city of phoenix would evacuate its residents to areas further south such as Tucson. Hopefully this never happens, but this is what I thing the government would do.

  104. Tyler S Says:

  105. Ben S. Says:

Response: I am responding to the statement mad e by Christian F. I strongly agree with his statement about a chemichal bomb being dropped in Phoenix known as biological warfare. This type of warfare is very desstructive and lethal and as Chrisain said it would have devastating effects on Phoenix.

  106. Tyler S Says:

Ben S, I agree with you on your statement on what I would I would do if there were a large scale terrorist attack on phoenix. Since I live in the outskirts of town I would not be hit at first but terrorists would come eventually. So I would stock up on food and ammunition and block all ways in and out of my house. This is why I agree with you.

  107. Kate K Says:

I agree with Sarah F. I really like the way you compared Green and what you think most people would do. I totally agree that Green didn’t handle the disaster ver well, even though her whole family died in this devestating disaster. If I were in the same situation as Green I would at least help all of the people in the city and try to help.

  108. Christopher G. Says:

Nate H. I do agree with you on how you said it would be chaos if there was an attack on Phoenix. Yes it probaly would be pretty bad but I think eventualy our police and firedepartment would fix it up, like you said Nate. People would rember the day for every. But I don’t really agree when you said the we would attack back I think that our govonment would not attack back.

  109. ethan b. 8b Says:

I agree with Jake O. on how Elastigirl was trying to save her children from danger. And how she was trying to keep them from harms whey. Because the robot would have crushed them. Plus all of the other dangers lurking in the areas. That is why I agree with Jake.

  110. Ali S Says:

I agree with Nathan H. when he said that it would be total chaos for Arizona, and probably that whole US. I disagree when he said that we would fight back. I think that we would handle it well, and handle it like how we handled 9/11.

  111. Jake O. Says:

I agree with Nick D. He said that downtown Phoenix would evacuate everyone if there was a terrorist attack. This would probably happen in real life. I think Phoenix would handle it well. This is why I agree with Nick D.

  112. Dominic B. Says:

I agree with Natalie D. because when a disaster is happening everyone is in the state of shock and wants to get the heck out of where they are that they do not know what to do. We would also lose a lot of houses, buildings, and natuaral reasources of there was a natural disaster. It would also take a while to repair the beaten up areas because as in New Orleans, as Natalie stated, it still isn’t repaired completely. So i agree with Natalie D. with her commet to a natural disaster.
