  1. Sierra D. Says:

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is one of the most popular and most visited memorials in the United States. It is located in the outskirts of Keystone, South Dakota. It was created by Gutzon Borglum in 1927. The memorial was made to represent the 1st 150 years of the history of the United States. It has the Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. It shows people what fearless leaders we had to run our country. It pays tribute to them.

  2. Shannon e Says:

The Lincoln Memorial is one of many memorials that people visit and is constructed for public display. It represents Lincoln’s assignation and his great leadership has president of the United States. It effects the people that visit it because all of the sayings make them see how special he was o or country. That is why Lincoln’s Memorial is important.

  3. Sarah F Says:

A memorial that has been constructed for the public might be the Washington Monument. This monument has a great effect on people, just like Green’s monuments of stone pebbles had a profound effect on her. The Washington Monument, for example, inspires in people a sense of history that the first president of the United States helped to write. It also reminds them always of the great contribution our country has made since the time of its birth. This monument represents all of the hopes and dreams of a nation, just as Green’s simple piles of stones represented her love for each of her family members. Just as Green’s piles of rock were different for each member of her family, according to their personalities (black for her mother, silver for her father, and white for her sister) so too does the Washington Monument represent the tall and imposing figure of the man who governed our country from its very beginning. The feelings that are inspired by such monuments are the same: hope, awe, and remembrance.

  4. Haley G. Says:

A memorial that had been constructed for public display would be the 911 memorial every year. It represents the people who died on that day, what they died for, and a ceremony or remembrance for the family and friends of the person that died. It effects the people who visited the memorial is seeing all the names on the list of people that died and feeling the shock of how many peopled who had died. Also, just to think that the people, who died, just got up in the morning thinking it was a regular day of work and then this happens. That is a memorial that I think really effects people and what it represents.

  5. Darian D Says:

Over the summer, I went to Washington D.C. which had numerous memorials for different events and people. One memorial though, stuck out. It wasn’t the Washington Memorial or the Lincoln Memorial, but it was the Korean Memorial. The memorial had statues of what some of the soldiers looked like and they were shaped to look show how they were fighting in this battle (because it was never named a war). The memorial also including a huge, black marble wall with all those names of those who died on it and had quotes, prayers, and opinions on it too. The one unique thing about it was that it had dots all over the wall which, if you looked from a distance, had a picture of the battle that you made look at in awe. The Korean Memorial really touches you in some way. It shows you how hard those soldiers fought for our country and it really touches you because all of those names you see and by some of the prayers and quotes that they shared.

One memorial is the Babe Ruth statue in Cooperstown New York. This is a very big thing for a lot of baseball fans. Babe Ruth is one of the best players to ever play the game. People love seeing this because when they look at it they know how much Babe Ruth meant to Major League baseball. That is one memorial that people love to look at.

  9. Brennan T Says:

There was a memorial that has been constructed about the battle at Iwo Jima. It shows the seven people who raised the american flag on top of the mountain volcano Suribachi. This battle was on Japanese soil and it was known to them as sacred ground. The effects on the people who visit the site makes them think about the people who have sacraficed there lives for america.

  10. Danny G. Says:

In my life there have been many memorial structures that have a special meaning to me. The most important memorial to me is the statue of Hank Aaron in Cooperstown New York. I love baseball and Hank Aaron is one of the most inspirational baseball players that has ever played. He is a true hero to me because he has set many records in hitting and fielding. That is the memorable structure that means a lot to me in my life.

  11. Jake O Says:

A memorial that I have seen is the Lincoln Memorial. It was made for Abraham Lincoln. It was made because he ended slavery in the United States of America. He was one of the best presidents. The Lincoln Memorial is very important.

  12. AndrewM Says:

One memorial that I can think of is the Lincoln Memorial. This was constructed to honor our 16 president. It is located in Washington DC. This lifts peoples spirits and helps us remember him. I haven’t seen it yet but when I do it will be amazing.

  13. Jordan S Says:

An example of a memorial in a public place is the Halocaust Memorial. It reminds us of all the Jews and Gypsies that died during the Halocaust in World War 2. It makes almost everyone that sees it very sad. There are thousands of people whose names are mentioned on that wall. All of them died in horrible ways. Looking at the Halocaust Memorial makes you very solemn.

  14. Allie C. Says:

There is one memorial that is made to remember all the people that have died in World War 2. Usually people get really sad when they visit it. It makes people sad because they see everyone who has fought for us. That is why people get sad when they visit it. That is one memorial that remembers soldiers.

  15. Jillian L Says:

In Washington, they have a memorial for Abraham Lincoln. It has subscripts from the Gettysburg Address on the wall. It represents Lincoln’s strength in fighting for the things he believed in. After some people visit it, they cry. The words on the wall are so powerful and captivating. It effects people everyday.

  16. scout a. Says:

A memorial that has been constructed for public display would be the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. It is a wall represents all of the names of the people who died or were never found in the Vietnam War. Many people go there every year and they leave flowers, wreaths, or pictures of their loved ones who died. Many people who did not even know the people who died are truly touched by the impact that the wall has played in many peoples lives.

  17. Jacob H. Says:

Memorials are important to people. They show an important thing that happened. The Washington Memorial for example, is important in showing how George Washington was a founder of our country, and the first president. Around the memorial is fifty flags. Those represent the fifty states. Memorials are great ways to remember history.

  18. Michael S Says:

One memorial I can think of is the Lincoln memorial. It is in Washington D.C. It is a memorial dedicated to president Abraham Lincoln and how he fought to free slavery. When people visit it today they think of his wonderful presidency and how he led an army to war in the civil war and won. This is truly great memorial.

  19. Juliana C Says:

The Vietnam War Memorial honors all of the bvrave soldiers who died in the Vietnam War. It has the soldiers poistioned in their battle places and it has a huge wall with the names of all the soldiers etched into it. Its really sad to see people go there, because many people are grieving the loss of a loved one who died in the war. Its sad, but at the same time it is important that all of those brave people are remembered in a way that all the public can see.

  20. meghan r Says:

There are many famous memorials that represent different things in the United State’s past. One of my favorites is the Lincoln Memorial. A huge statue of President Abraham Lincoln sits atop a chair and looks out over the rest of Washington D.C. Lincoln’s memorial was dedicated to him because of his great leadership during the Civil War and his effort and eventual success on the freedom of African Americans. Abraham Lincoln changed our country for the better and deserves his memorial.

  21. Madison H. Says:

One memorial that has been constructed for public display is The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a remembrance of all of the soldiers that we never found. The people who visit the memorial the most are most likely the people who had a family member that was never found in war. When people visit the site they think of how sad the families are that couldn’t find their loved ones, and they think of how lucky they are that these people went to war to protect and serve their country. This is one memorial for public display, and how it effects the people who visit the site.

  22. Ben S. Says:

This is a memorial that has been constucted for the public. The monument at Ground Zero in New York City is a very powerful reminder of what happened on September 11th. Some residents of New York city don’t want to visit the memorial because they are afraid of being overpowered by the sense of loss and sorrow that is felt the moment you set foot on the site. Many people are brought to tears when they visit the site. That is a memorial that has been created for the public and what emotions many people feel at it.

  23. Michael M 8B Says:

I believe that there are many memorial sites in the united states of America, but by far the most touching is the 9/11 memorial site. This memorial site represents all the people who died on September 11th from the terrorist attacks. this memorial site has an effect on many people. I have seen people bend down on their knees and start parying and i have seen people just look at it. the effect is all the same: sadness. This site is located in New York where the twin towers used to be located until they tumbled down.

  24. Maddie S. Says:

The Vietnam War Memorial is one of the many memorials in Washington D.C. It represents all of the brave soldiers who died for our country in that war. All of the names of the soldiers who died are engraved on one long black wall. Many people leave letters or flowers on the wall. This is a very sad but powerful memorial. When I went there, I felt respect for all of the soldiers around the world. The Vietnam War Memorial is a very well done memorial.

  25. Julie L Says:

There have been many memorials that have been constructed for public display. One memorial is the Lincoln Monument. The Lincoln Monument shows people how important Lincoln is to the U.S. and everything he did for our country. When people look at the statue they can be proud that he was our president at one time and know that he tried to help our country. That is one memorial that has been constructed for public display.

  26. nate h Says:

One memorial that has effected all the people that visit it is the World Trade Center Memorial. This memorial is meant to remember all those who died trying to save the people were in the attack on 9/11. The people who visit it remember the sacrifices the people of the police department and the fire department made in order to save other people. This is one of many important memorials in the United States.

  27. Julian D. Says:

One example of a memorial is the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. It is a massive memorial that features a large statue of Abraham Lincoln sitting on a chair. Martin Luther King Jr. also did his “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln memorial. Many tourists in Washington, DC visit this, because it is one of the most famous places in the United States. They are probably in admiration of the fine work that Lincoln did. Tourists would probably also be proud to visit a sight that is so famous and important.

  28. Lauren G. Says:

The Washington Monument is one of the well-known monuments in Washington, D.C. The monument commemorates George Washington, our first president. When people see this monument they are moved by its stature and beauty. The monument is the world’s tallest stone structure and the tallest obelisk. People think of the father of our country, George Washington, and what might have happened to our country if he didn’t have a significant role.

  29. Natalie D Says:

Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a war memorial that has been constructed for public display. It represents and honors members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War and who died in service or are still unaccounted for. The effects on people who visited the site were sorrow and anything really to the effect of sadness.

  30. Whitney H (8a) Says:

In New York, there is a Korean War memorial. This memorial represents something emotional for some people. It represents our soldiers who fought in the war. They gave up their lives to help protect their country. Some of these soldiers left their families behind when they died and so that is why it is an emotional setting for some people more than others.

  31. Matt G Says:

One memorial that has been constructed for public display is the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. This memorial represents all of the soldiers that died for us in the Vietnam War. One of the effects that it has on people who visit the site is that they are stunned by how many people went over and died for us in Vietnam. One sad thing is that some people didn’t even think that we should have been in Vietnam, but this memorial shows how many people think that we should have. Those are some of the effects that the Vietnam Memorial has on the people that visit it.

  32. Anthony K. Says:

A memorial that has been constructed for public display is the Statue of Liberty. This Statue is in New York and has been there since the 1800s. The Statue of Liberty represnets Lady Liberty. The effects it has on the people who visited and still visit it is a sense of pride and joy. In the 1800s, immigrants would arrive at Ellis Island in New York and when the people saw the Statue of Liberty, they knew that they have reached freedom, which was a great feeling.

  33. Jackie F. Says:

There are many memorials in the United States and around the world today. One memorial located in Hawaii is the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl National Cemetery. The Punchbowl National Cemetery represents all the men and woman who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The walls of the memorial are etched with names of those who were never recovered from battle, and many names are from Pearl Harbor. People who visit this site are very saddened, but are also filled with pride from how many people fought to protect our country. Many people learn more about the history of the wars from the people who fought in them, and this memorial helps that. The Punchbowl National Cemetery is a great memorial.

  34. Christopher G. Says:

One Memorial that has been constructed would be a cemntary. The cemntary gives people place to put their dead loved ones. It also is a good place for people to rember them. It is a very emontional place for people to just come and be there with their loved ones. People are usely very touched by it because there is nothing like it in the world.

  35. Kait E. Says:

I can think of a lot of memorials put up in remembrance of something special. A memorial was put up in remembrance of the terrorist attack on 9-11. This memorial was put up to remember all those who had died in the attack and to honor those police, firefighters, and anyone else who tried to help find lost people and save others. Many people had died and it had a huge impact on out nation. We could never forget what happened there and all those who lost their lives. The memorial at ground zero is there to remind us what had happened and how the American people came together to help others. The memorial has brought tears to those who have read it and hope that this will never happen again.

  36. Bentley B. Says:

One memorial that has been constructed for the public display is Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This memorial represents Abraham Lincoln. Although to me it represents much more. I believe it also represents the freedom of African American. To me it represent it also represents the Civil War. People who visit this site can expect to feel a sense of enlighten and a sense of warmness came upon you. Also you are in the presence of history.

  37. Keegan M. 8A Says:

Mount Rushmore Memorial is one that i hear about all the time. It represents the 1st 150 years of the history of the United States and the faces of four presidents are carved into the mountainside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. When people visit it affects them because they get to see the side of our presidents they have never seen before.

When people visit it affects them because they get to see the side of our presidents they have never seen before.

  39. Shannon e Says:

I am replying to Anthony K. He said that the Statue of Liberty is a great memorial. I agree with Anthony because to many people crossing over from Europe and other parts of the world thought of that as there sign of freedom. I have never seen the real thing but hope too when I am older. I think it is very important part of the United States. That is why I agree with Anthony K.

  40. Lauren G. Says:

I agree with Haley G. The 9/11 memorial really moves people and touches their hearts. Because it was so recent, people have real feelings about it, instead of the George Washington Monument. People may feel a sense of pride for their country, but they weren’t alive to actually see George Washington. They may not understand how important he was.

  41. Justice Says:

The Lincoln memorial is a very famous memorial. It has been built in honor of President Lincoln. When someone walks on the steps of this memorial and then finally reaches the top they will be expired by Lincoln. Lincoln was a great president and never gave up. He ended slavery in America. People realize what America went through to get to today. This is a great memorial.

  42. Madison H. Says:

I agree with everything Jordan S. says. I agree with Jordan S. because the memorial does remind us of all of the Jews and Gypsies that died during the Holocaust in World War II. The thousands of people that died, died in horrible disgusting ways. It makes everyone that sees the memorial very sad and solemn. That is why I agree with Jordan S.

  43. Alexia O Says:

There are a lot of memorials that make people remember what happened or why it is important. One would be the 9/11 memorial. The memorial was put up for all those who died in the terrorist attack. Many people died in the attack and many others died trying to save people. This brought sorrow to loved ones and friends. All those in America will never forget what happened to the Twin Towers.

  44. Alexia O Says:

I agree with Haley G. The 9/11 memorial put many people in tears. But we came back from it strong.

  45. meghan r Says:

I agree with Scout A when she said, “Many people who did not even know the people who died are truly touched by the impact that the wall has played in many peoples lives”. The Vietnam memorial is very important to many Americans who either was in or lost loved ones in the Vietnam War. The war played a crucial part in our country’s history and the soldiers who lost their lives in it should be remembered. The soldiers lost their lives protecting the United States and it is very important to honor them for their loyalty. The Vietnam Memorial is an important United States Memorial.

  46. Sarah F Says:

I am responding to Shannon E’s statement about the Lincoln Memorial. I agree with her that the Lincoln Memorial reminds people just how great President Lincoln was for our country. All of the things he said, all of the decorations, remind people of how great a person he was. I also agree with Shannon that it represents his assassination and his feelings. His grave pose demonstrates just what he endured for our country, and what end it gave him. This memorial is a fine tribute to a great president.

  47. Darian D Says:

Lauren G., I like the monument you picked and how you described it. The Washington Monument is a very well-known and important monument that reminds us of our loved first president, George Washington. When you said that people get moved by its beauty and stature, I wouldn’t even have thought of those to important and special qualities. Also, when you said when you look at it you think what it would have been like without George Washington, and it really makes me think and makes me realize what he did for our country. He did do so much for our country that we don’t realize and appreciate it.

  48. Jack D Says:

Mount Rushmore is a memorial that is very important to all Americans. The memorial is located in North Dakota. Four famous prresident’s heads are on Mount Rushmore. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt are the presidents remembered at Mount Rushmore. They were four of the greatest presidents and heroes of the United States history. This memorial tells Americans about these presidents and why they are remembered.

  49. Jack D Says:

Christopher G, I agree with you 100 percent. Cemetaries tell people who died and why they are remembered. Most people that visit cemetaries are probably sad, but the flowers and decorations of the graves show joy and rememberance. That is why I agree with Christopher G.

  50. Kate K Says:

There are many memorials in the United States, but one I can think of is the Holocaust Memorial. This memorial represents all of the people that died and survived of the Holocaust. This effects people everywhere because this was a horrible time and many people were very brave to sacrifice their lives to help others. People today can see how hard it was to live back when the Holocaust occured. People can also understand how this affected society then and how people live today. Even though there are many memorials, I think the Holocaust Memorial is one of the most important memorials that represents our country today.

  51. heidi h Says:

An important memorial is the Lincoln Memorial. It represents Abraham Lincoln, a very good president. Lincoln did so much for our country. He should always be remembered. That’s why their is a memorial for him in Washington DC. I have always wanted to see it because Lincoln is one of my favorite presidents. He has done so much for our country, and I’m glad he is still being remembered.

  52. Megan S. Says:

One memorial that I have been to is the Pearl Harbor Memorial. It was a very sad time in our history when they bombed Hawaii. and they built it over the U.S.S. Arizona. There is a wall that lists all the people that died in the war and that wall is huge and full of names. Everything is quite and peacful. If you look closely at the water you can see oil still leaking up to the surface of the ocean form the battleship. This place was for all to see and remember tose brave souls that died.

  53. Tommy E. Says:

A memorial that has been constructed for the public is ground zero in New York City. It represents the tragedy of September 11, 2001. It is built to remember all the people who died on that day. It affects the people that visit it because the people who come remember and give reverence to the people who died. Public memorials are meant to represent something. When visitors come they honor and remember the people who died. It brings them back to the day it happened. By remembering something that happened in the past, we realize how much the person and their family lost from it. Ground zero is a very popular sight. Memorials aren’t just for tragedies. They can also be for people who do good things.

  54. Tommy E. Says:

I agree with Sierra D when she stated that Mount Rushmore is a public memorial. Mount Rushmore is a very important monument. It has so much meaning. It represents the presidents and what they did for the country. They have made our country great and I think its great that they have something like that for people to remember and honor the people who had a lot of impact on our country. We are very blessed to have presidents like them. Mount Rushmore is a major monument and it has a lot of effect on the people who see it.

  55. Tommy E. Says:

I agree with Sierra D when she stated that Mount Rushmore is a public memorial. Mount Rushmore is a very important monument. It has so much meaning. It represents the presidents and what they did for the contry. They have made our country great and I think its great that they have something like that for people to remember and honor the people who had a lot of impact on our country. We are very blessed to have presidents like them. Mount Rushmore is a major monument and it has a lot of effect on the people who see it.

  56. Dominic B. Says:

The Lincoln memorial was constructed for public display. This memorial represents Lincoln of his great leadership and how he saved the Union. Two years after his assassination Congress formed the Lincoln Monument Association. It’s effect to people to who visit the site is tremendous because they remember that it was Lincoln why slavery is banned and that it was Lincoln who saved the Union. They also remember his bravery, intelligence, and his leadership. This memorial is a memorial honoring Lincoln, which is why it is so important.

  57. nate h Says:

I agree with Christopher G. Any cemetery is a great memorial. It remembers all the people who died and were buried there. It affects the friends and relatives of these people. These people are able to visit their loved ones. A cemetery is a great memorial.

  58. Jackie F. Says:

I agree and think that Kait E. had a very good example of a memorial. There are many memorials for 9/11 and they bring back memories of a very sad time. Many people died trying to save the lives of others, like firefighters, police officers, and regular civilians. As Kait said, we could never forget the destruction that happened on September 11th, and many people who see the memorials have tears in their eyes. People just have to remember that America will do whatever it can to protect its people. America came together in that time of need, and the many memorials show that.

  59. Matt G Says:

Responding to Brennan T: Here is why I agree with Brennan T. I agree with him because the Iwo Jima Memorial is very important. I also agree because when we raised the flag on Surabachi, it signified that many brave men died to claim that mountain. I also agree because the people who visit this site are given a grim and also honorable reminder of all of the men who sacrificed their lives to claim that island. That is why I agree with Brennan.

  60. abby w Says:

There are many memorials that people visit and that people are affected by its power and what it says without evening having to really speak to us. Mount Rushmore is a very important monument to all people. It tells us that the presidents, whose head is on the monument, are very important for all they have done for our country. Everyone knows who the presidents are on that monument. And everyone knows what they did to help our country, help it improve. Help it be one of the best countries in the world.

  61. abby w Says:

For my response, I’m going to have to agree with and write about Sierra’s answer to this question. We both wrote about Mount Rushmore. I agree with you when you said that Mount Rushmore is one of the most popular monuments to visit. Also, it is one of the most visited monuments too. And I like how you gave a few facts about the monument. Like how you said where it is located. And who is on the Mount. And I agree with basically all you said.

  62. Kait E. Says:

I agree with Lauren about the Washington Monument. Washington was the first president of our country and helped set examples for future presidents. With his help he made what our nation is today. This is why people are so moved when they see this monument and know that he did something to help shape our country. Not only that, but he was known as a great person and did not give up. He just didn’t set precedents for our country, but also for each of our lives.

  63. Christian F. Says:

A memorial that is very special is the 911 memorial. It has a list of everyone who died that die. It also has pictures of missing people that they have not found yet. It is like a grave because a lot of people died there. It also shows all the firefighters and police men that died that day trying to help out other people. The memorial honors them too. The memorial brings tears to everyone that visits it. People go there to remember their loved ones that have died. 911 was one of the saddest days in America and the memorial honors those we died that day.

  64. Christian F. Says:

I agree with Kait E. I agree that the 911 memorial is very special . It honors all the people that died on that day. The memorial is at ground zero. Ground zero is where most of it happened. People come to the memorial to remember the people who have died there and all the firefighters and police men that died trying to save other people’s lives. The memorial at ground zero is a very special.

  65. Nat B. Says:

There are many memorials that were constructed for public display in Washington D.C. There are memorials that remember great presidents that make people wish that they could have met those influential people. There are memorials that commemorate those that were killed during multiple wars in American History that put numerous people in tears when they realize how many people who gave their lives for our country. One of the most recent memorials created is the 9/11 memorial that pays a tribute to all of the men and women that were killed on that day in 2001. This memorial hits a little closer to home for my generation because we remember 9/11 and we are still in a war that was sparked by it.

  66. Ethan H Says:

The memorial at Ground Zero has had a huge effect on people. I think that this was one of the biggest disasters to ever hit this country. Many died, and people were very hurt by this. It kept people living in fear of terrorist attacks, but also started many things, like the war in Iraq. It has started a stereotype that all Middle-Eastern people are terrorists, and we view them differently because of this. Ground zero is a grassy park now with a statue in the middle. It is a reminder of what happend there, and it will not be forgetten.

  67. Julie L Says:

I agree with Darian D. The Korean Memorial is very special. It means a lot to man people, and it holds a place in many people’s hearts. It shows us that people care enough for our country to fight. It also represents that we shouldn’t take our soldiers for granted.

  68. Jordan S Says:

I liked Brennan’s response. Iwo Jima was a good example. He used good facts and made it sound like a cool place to go to. Now I want to visit there someday. Americans probably sacrificed a lot at Iwo Jima.

  69. Julian D Says:

Nate H, I agree with you that the World Trade Center Memorial is very powerful. A lot of people also remember the people who died while inside the World Trade Center. It’s stunning to think that the firefighters and policemen at the site of the attack would give their lives to help people who they don’t even know.

  70. Dillon C. Says:

I agree with Julian. The Lincoln memorial is very massive. When you look up at it, it must make you fell like he is very powerful. Imagine that, but with God. God would be way more powerful than that. That would be very intense. That is why I agree with julian

  71. Bentley B. Says:

I agree with Andrew M. on a few of his points about Lincoln Memorial. I with him on the fact that it lifts people’s sprits and it helps us remember him. If we did not have this memorial I believe that not as many people would know of his name. His legacy would just fade away like salt dissolving in water. That is why I agree with Andrew M.

There are many famous, life changing, amazing memorials or sights known today. One less talked about is the memorial sight of the Twin Towers. I went to the sight last summer and it was very sad, and breathtaking. This memorial is the memorial for all who died in this innocent bystanderd terrorist attack. I have family there so it hits close to home. That is why this memorial is great for our country.

  73. Allie C. Says:

I agree with Christian F. I agree with Christian F. because it does remind us of what happened on 9/11. It is also true that it brings people to tears when you visit this memorial. That is why I agree with Christian F.

  74. Michael S Says:

I am responding to Jordan Smith’s answer. I have never heard of the holocaust memorial before. It sounds very sad. It also sounds very important. I am glad someone thought of that memorial instead of something easy like the Washington monument, or the Lincoln memorial. Good thoughts Jordan!

I agree with Scout A. The Vietnam Memorial is a very important one. I honors the people who died. That is a very important thing to remember. It helps people understand how many people died and how important their lives were. If we didn’t have a this memorial people might just forget about the people who died in Vietnam.

  77. Natalie D Says:

I agree with Sarah F when she says “that the Washington Monument people in a sense of history that the first president of the United States helped write.” I also didn’t know that “the Washington Monument represents the tall and imposing figure of the man who governed our country from its beginning”. When I read what Sarah wrote I learned lots of things that I actually never really knew.

Memorials are special places and things that remind us of significance in the past. A very important memorial to me is the grounds of the 9/11 terrorist attack. Many lives were lost on September 11, 2001. On that tragic day, evil people crashed two planes into the World Trade Center. Families and friends were brought together during that time of grief. This memorial site is amazing and truly touching. People are brought to tears and filled with sadness. In my opinion, our country has become stronger and more united from that attack. The memorial site reminds us of the tragedy and also remembers all of the innocent lives taken that day.

  80. Jacqueline M 8b Says:

Responding to Christopher G: I agree with your response. Cemeteries are one of the most common memorials that most people have been to. It’s a place to remember your loved ones. When people visit cemeteries, they are filled with sadness, but also happiness that their loved ones are in a better place. Memorials are wonderful things because they remind us of great people and important events that have occurred.

A Memorial that has been constructed for public display would probably be the Lincoln Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial is located in Washington, D.C. and is important to people because it is a memorial that honors the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. The statue was created by, the New York architect Henry Bacon, and it was based on a Greek temple with 36 Doric columns. Each column represents one state of the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death. Inside the 99ft tall marble temple is a large sculpture of Abraham Lincoln seated in a chair. The northern wall contains writing of Lincoln’s speech. Then the southern wall has the Gettysburg address inscribed. Above the writing is a mural illustration of the angel of truth freeing a slave. The statue is important to us because the memorial is often used as a gathering place for protests and political rallies. The most famous was the March of Washington in 1963, when Martin Luther King delivered his famous speech ‘I have a dream’ from the Lincoln Memorial. It affects us all, when we see this memorial we remember all the people who were slaves and wanted to be free.

  82. Ellen S Says:

I agree with Whitney H. I think her memorial is unique but memorable. This Korean War memorial shows all those who died. Also it gives an idea on how people showed patriotism, fighting for their country. I think that The Korean War memorial is a very intersting, caring, well needed piece of work. That is why I agree with Whitney H.

  83. Jake O Says:

This memorial is very important to a lot of people. It is a statement of our country. The four men in the memorial carried our country through some pretty hard times and we should always remember them.

  86. Jillian L Says:

I agree with Kate K. The Holocaust Memorial is very special to many Americans. Their relatives could be buried there. Many Jewish people like to visit there to remember the terrible devastation that happened 60 some years ago.

I agree with Jillian L. who agrees with Kate K. The Holocaust Museum is an important trade mark of our past. When the Nazis and Hitler went on a killing spree, they killed Jews, and any person who didn’t fit the “normal” personality of a white boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. The museum shows all the brave souls of the Jews and other people who got killed. That is why I agree with Jillian.

  89. Elias N. Says:

A memorial that has been constructed for display is the Abraham Lincoln display at washington D.C.
this statute of Mr. Lincoln sitting in a chair represents a memory of what he did to help end slavery. The effects of this statute is that it reminds how slavery was wrong.

I agree with Shannon E. because the Lincoln Memorial is one of the most visited memorial’s today. It did symbolize Lincoln’s bravery and his great leadership. Without him the U.S. might not be as equal to all types of people as it is today. So the Lincoln Memorial I think is a great example.

I would like to go there again.

  93. Dylan T. Says:

I agree with Andrew M. I thought that the Lincoln Memorial was a good memorial as well. People’s spirits do lift when they see it. I know mine did. There are always a lot of people there to see it. When I went to see it, it was hard to get to it. The Lincoln Memorial was a very popular sight too see. That is why I agree with Andrew M.
