If I were in a situation where I had to destroy all the evidence on a ship I probably would have tried to tear the papers up to shreds first. Then, just like in the book, I would have tried to burn the evidence. If the papers still weren’t destroyed in time I probably would have hid them until I got a chance to finish burning them. If there was no place to hide them I probably would have thrown them overboard to drown. Than I would just hope the enemy wouldn’t jump in the water after the papers.
I think someone from England would describe America in a negative way at that time period because, first off, the English were known to be extremely proper, and the Americans were more lade back and not so proper about everything. Secondly, because America was still growing and had been colonized only some time before, they did not have traditions and customs that dated back for centuries. Many colonists came to America because they wanted more freedom from the King and Parliament, and if you were English it was considered very wrong to say bad things about the King. I think the main reason why an English person would think negatively about America is because since the Americans did not agree with taxes, or a lot of what the King demanded or thought, they would rebel. So, I think many English people, especially the wealthier English families like Creighton’s, believed America was a land inhabited by a bunch of rebels.
